MARY’S OBITUARY

Mary Grissom or Mary Anne Grissom was born on the 29th of October 1929 at Lake Charles, LA to Simeon and Victoria Ogea.

She was a student at LaGrange High School, graduating class of 1947. She then went to McNeese Jr. College, class of 1949, and later getting a teaching certificate at Southwestern Institute (currently U.L.L. ) in 1951, class of.

Her teaching career began at Bell City, then as she and Robert were transferred during Robert’s military service, she taught across the nation. Following Robert being discharged with honor and the two returned home to Lake Charles, where she taught for more than thirty-one year in the schools of SJ Welsh and FK White.

She was a devoted and a member at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and worked with her fellow Catholic Daughters. She made several trips in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia and Guadalupe to observe the places where Mary was worshipped. Through the years, she’s made many beautiful Rosary’s, and donated them all for the Church.

In her spare time, she was a fan of playing Bingo macrame, crocheting Jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and Sudoku.

She was admitted to Heaven by the husband of her, Robert J. Grissom and a daughter Mary Denise Nealy; a grandchild Terry Grissom; her parents, Simeon and Victoria Ogea and A sister Richard Ogea.

The ones left to keep her memory in the forefront the children of her parents, Rev. Joel R. Grissom, Madeline H. Birdsong, Guy T. (Linda) Grissom, Andree L. Grissom, Chad H. Grissom Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Betty Moore, Jimmy Ogea, Helen Hedrich, Ester “Squeaky” Doucet, Alice Sonnier, Tommy Ogea and An Aunt Natalie Coulon.

To ensure the health and safety of family and friends Face masks are essential for funeral and visitation services.

The family will greet visitors on Thursday on October 14, 2021 in University Baptist Church beginning at 4pm until 8pm. There will be a Rosary to be said at 6pm. Visitation will resume on Friday on the following day at University Baptist Church at 9:30am until 11am.

A Christian Mass Burial conducted by the priest Father Levi Thompson will begin at 11:15 on the hour at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The deceased is to be laid in repose with her beloved husband in Sallier Cemetery.
